Challenge

Our client was moving into a refurbished factory space with preserved industrial equipment translated as truly unique decor. They wanted a desking solution that accommodated the space's low lighting while fitting into the industrial aesthetics and material palette of the space.

Solution

For this project, we drew inspiration from the architecture to create a custom solution. To accommodate the space's low lighting (without distracting from the industrial look and feel), we incorporated a custom light fixture into our existing Mix workstation solution by replacing the center screens with an LED light.

Define Concept

Using our existing Mix workstation as the jumping off point, we set out to create workstations with custom individual fixed lighting elements that fit the industrial aesthetics of the space.

 
 
 
 

Iterate

We experimented with a wide range of light forms and sources (incandescent and LED) to determine what would work best for the end user.

 
 
 
 

Customize

We also developed custom end leg options to make sure the final design was as low profile, industrial, and minimal as possible. The design is in the details.

 
 
 
 

Prototype

To test power considerations, form, functionality, and materials, we constructed a full-scale lighting system that plugs into Mix’s existing power trough.

 
 
 
 

Test

The full scale lighting prototype was also used to test light quality under different circumstances. This helped us achieve the darker, moody vibe the client wanted while creating a usable workspace.

 
 
 
 

Install

The final workstation design uses our traditional Mix base with a central lighting LED bar and a custom perforated panel welded to our existing loop leg to create what looks like a new leg altogether.
